> **Pros**: I love the idea of a word processor that manages content in a way that mimics data. To be able to break a page into paragraphs and paragraphs into sentences in order to rearrange them appropriately is awesome.

> **Cons**: I feel like there should be more shortcuts for the actions, especially keyboard shortcuts because I have to use my mouse way too much.

> Overall, I think it is a well-designed tool for people who think of content in terms of blocks of data and who write regularly.

> **Pros**: I love the idea of visually arranging idea cards to structure a longer piece of writing. Speare uses Markdown: this is good. There's also a fairly powerful set of ability to link boards across workspaces, and it's great to be able to flip to doc view.
> 
> **Cons**: The worst issue is actually relatively simple: Given the size constraints of a computer screen, I can't drag a card higher in the board than the top of the screen. (Dragging it to the top and holding it doesn't make the board scroll up. This means that, for a longer piece of writing, it's actually pretty difficult to arrange cards. 
This is related to the general problem with Speare: Writing in narrow boards is perhaps less intuitive than I had hoped. (Boards can be widened.)

> I hoped Speare would help me with writing my thesis, and I think it has. However, I'm not sure I'm going to continue the experiment. Word and Notion combined may work as well.

> **Pros**: For 2+ years Speare was simple and intuitive to use there by making it a very effective tool. Now it is the opposite of that.
> 
> **Cons**: the 5.0 upgrade is a functional departure from the previous version and it's time consuming to manage. I am broken hearted by the change.
> 
> Speare made their product less functional to me, the end user. For that I feel forced to switch to an alternate platform that doesn't waste my time. Prior to the 5.0 update I often times recommended their software, but as a daily user I cannot stomach the changes they made and I am sad to have to move to something else.
